It was a hot topic at A.J. Katzenmaier Elementary as the North Chicago Fire Department visited AJK to help students celebrate Fire Prevention Month!
Firefighters kicked off the visit with a fun and engaging schoolwide assembly filled with important safety tips. Students learned how to stay safe during an emergency, why it’s important to check smoke alarms, and how to make an escape plan with their families.
Firefighters also showed off their special gear, explaining how each piece protects them when they rush to help others. Students were amazed at how quickly firefighters can suit up and how heavy their equipment really is!
The excitement continued outside where the fire engine and ambulance were waiting. Students got an up-close look at the fire engine — checking out the hoses, tools, and flashing lights. They also toured the ambulance to see where paramedics work and learned about the life-saving equipment used in emergencies.
The visit was the perfect way to start out Fire Prevention Month at AJK — filled with learning, laughter, and appreciation for the heroes who keep our community safe.
Thank you to the North Chicago Fire Department for making safety exciting and unforgettable for our students! 🚒❤️
